"We first met in a classroom in SE1 at the London Nautical School, which was formed in 1915 after the official report on the sinking of the Titanic. It was in the music room there that we put together several bands in the folk/rock vein.
A couple of years after leaving school we went our separate ways, coming into contact every once in a while.
One fateful evening we happened to be sitting around a table at a meeting at Blackheath Halls and started talking about the old days, so after toying with various musical styles, we came back to our roots."
Stephen Skey's Bio
Being born early May does lend itself to the folk idiom as there is a Bob Dylan song that mentions the specific date. So you could say he was born, literally, to be a folkie. Another quirk is that he was born in SE1, a stone’s throw from the Thames and County Hall, across the river from House of Parliament, and about a 15 minute walk from the London Nautical School (Tamesis Suos Ubique Feret)
On leaving school he started working at Dolby Labs. Whilst there he dealt with some well known studios and the odd musician. A chance meeting with Chris at Blackheath Halls who was working for another employer led him back to playing again.
In 2008 he set up the Mandolin Orchestra of Dartford Town as a one off for his birthday, three years later it’s still going strong, and they perform every couple of months at the Dartford Folk Club.
April 2009 saw him become a member of the shanty group Hogeye Men. In February 2011 the Kent contingent of the Hogs, relocated themselves to Crayford and now perform under the name Swinging The Lead.
