The Missouri Gutts are a three piece acoustic band based in North-West Kent, consisting of Graham Cousins - vocals and guitar, Lee Wellbrook - guitars, mandolin and 6-string banjo, and Nick Bidgood - bass guitar and upright bass.
They play a mix of Americana, folk, blues, country and pub-rock, by the likes of Steve Earle, The Band, Nick Lowe, Ronnie Lane, Lucinda Williams, Little Feat and Bob Dylan, plus their own original material and arrangements of traditional songs.
They have slowly but surely built a following in Kent ("The Gutterati ") playing a number of pub and club gigs and appearing at this year's Rochester Sweeps Festival, and Sevenoaks Festival. They will be playing 2 gigs at the forthcoming Broadstairs Folk Week.

Biography

Nick and Lee have been playing together on and off since their schooldays. In the late 70's they were in The Monitors who had a record deal with RSO, and played a John Peel Session (broadcast on 29 June 1979 ) . After attending the "It came from Memphis" concert at the Barbican in 2005, they decided it was time to get together again to play some Americana/Roots type music. They found that their local folk club hosted a weekly singaround session at the Tudor Barn, Eltham where they could try out their music in public.
Meanwhile, Graham was fed up playing the same old "Dad-Rock" in a series of pub bands and wanted to play the type of music that he was actually listening to (Steve Earle, Maria McKee, Counting Crows, The Band etc). Accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, he ventured out to a series of local open-mic and folk club sessions where someone suggested the Folkmob singaround at the Tudor Barn.
After they'd each performed a couple of songs, they recognised kindred musical sprits. A few weeks later they started sitting in on one another's songs, and then it was only a matter of time before they formally got together and became The Missouri Gutts.
